How I Quit Smoking
By: The Shamanatrix
There is nothing easy about quitting tobacco. It requires
a wholesale shift
in our habitual patterns of thought and emotional
response. For as long
as we have been smoking, we have been conditioning
ourselves to believe
that tranquility can only come to us from the outside-in.
The cigarette
becomes the primary tool used to quiet an anxious
mind while we slowly
lose the capacity to alleviate anxiety for ourselves
from the inside-out.
In order to quit smoking, one needs to be able to monitor
their thoughts
in realtime and recognize the nicotine fit early on
as it approaches. One
way to handle a nicotine fit is to examine it as closely
as is possible.
How does it change the way you think, how does it change
what you
think about, how does it really feel to be having
a nicotine fit? What is
the emotional polarity of my state of mind (positive/negative/neautral)?
With our mental states placed under a self-analytical
lens
the onset of a nicotine fit becomes easier to detect
and defuse.
Another useful technique is to allow oneself to become
sexually
aroused by the feelings that accompany a nicotine
fit. Once I
actually began to enjoy the sensations of a nicotine
fit, they rapidly
and mysteriously disappeared! Transforming the emotional
and
physical stress of the nicotine fit into an erotic
experience enabled
me to successfully quit smoking on May 21st 2000,
my re-birthday.
There are many benefits from paying closer attention
to our thoughts
and emotions as they occur. Enhanced degrees of emotional
and
intellectual control and maturity benefit every aspect
of our lives plus
there are the numerous physical health benefits from
quitting tobacco.
When we challenge our fears associated with quitting
smoking and
move from the thought of quitting to the actual actions
of quitting,
a tremendous amount of self power is created which
we can use to
benefit other aspects of our lives just a profoundly
and positively.
